Masanori Morikawa, designer of Christian Dada, received the DHL Designer Award. The award ceremony took place on March 18th at Shibuya Hikarie, following the Christian Dada 2013-2014 Autumn/Winter Collection Show. The fourth annual DHL Designer Award is presented to up-and-coming fashion designers with promising international potential and aims to support their international expansion. Morikawa commented, "Although our brand was established only recently, nearly half of our sales are currently overseas. We would like to continue to meet these expectations by considering global expansion, including the European and American markets." The prize includes overseas shipping costs totaling 500,000 yen, which can be used to internationalize the brand, including the transportation of samples and materials. Morikawa, who previously worked as a designer assistant at London-based brand Charles Anastase, launched his own brand in the Autumn/Winter 2010 season. He held his first solo runway show for his 2011 Autumn/Winter collection, and has been participating in Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Tokyo since the 2012 Autumn/Winter season.
In 2012, he became the first fashion designer other than Giorgio Armani to design costumes for Lady Gaga's world tour. He participated in Berlin Fashion Week in January 2013 and the Asia Fashion Federation Singapore Convention in May, and is expected to make an impact on the international stage.
