Atsushi Nakashima presented his second Spring/Summer 2013 collection. The theme was "Crossed Culture." Designer Atsushi Nakajima incorporated the beauty of Japanese culture he discovered during his seven years living abroad into his clothing.
The collection began with a flowing, square-cut dress with flowing drapes. Japanese ornamentation and forms, such as the use of a sash-like belt and protruding shoulder lines reminiscent of a kamishimo (traditional formal kimono), blended with Western elements. The color palette was based on black, with traditional Japanese colors such as dull gray, vermilion, and purple used throughout. Details reminiscent of armor, such as the use of metallic materials and linear panels, also appeared.
Immediately after the show, Nakajima received the third DHL Designer Award, given to a fashion designer with promising international success. DHL is the official logistics partner of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Tokyo 2013 S/S. Nakajima, who was presented with a prize worth 500,000 yen shipped overseas, said, "I am very honored. I would like to use this award as an opportunity to put even more effort into global activities."
