The legendary Parisian select shop Colette sadly closed in December 2017. The documentary "COLETTE, MON AMOUR," which follows the days leading up to the store's closure, is scheduled for release in Japan on September 26th.
Co-produced by Berlin-based men's online media HIGHSNOBIETY and Paris-based video production company La/Pac, and directed by brothers Hugues and Eliane Lawson-Body, the documentary also features rare footage of famous Colette fans from around the world, including Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, Futura 2000, Virgil Abloh, NIGO®, Chitose Abe, Verbal, and Masamichi Katayama, sharing their memories and passionately discussing Colette's impact on the fashion industry.
"COLETTE, MON AMOUR" premiered in Paris at the end of 2019, followed by limited premieres and events in London and New York. In Tokyo, it will be released exclusively at the cinema (WHITE CINE QUINTO) on the 8th floor of Shibuya PARCO from September 26th to October 8th, 2020.
To commemorate the release of the film, pop-up stores selling limited edition merchandise will also open in each city. Limited collaboration products curated by Colette and Highsnobiety will be on sale in each city. The Tokyo pop-up store will be opened at "2G" inside Shibuya PARCO in September (details will be announced at a later date).
Director Yuji Lawson-Bodie says, "As soon as I heard the news of Colette's closure, I felt the urge to document its final days, so I began filming." "It was imperative for us to document the days leading up to the closure of this legendary address, 213 rue Saint-Honoré in Paris, and what Colette symbolized," commented Eliane Lausson-Bodie.
"Once I began to feel at ease with this project, I realized how much I admire Colette and Sarah. I remembered everything they've invested in art and culture, how their multi-disciplinary culture has influenced so many people, and how, like so many artists and creators, my time at Colette as a photographer had brought me to a turning point in my career. Eliane and I realized that we had to tell the story of the Colette store from our perspective. This film is a tribute to the legendary concept store Colette and its founder," continues Yuji.
"When we announced the store's closure, Yuji asked if he would allow me to film a documentary. I had no idea what the outcome would be or who we would interview, but I said yes. Through this documentary, I hope to share the beautiful time that my mother and I spent at colette, to evoke those experiences for those who have already visited, and to give those who weren't able to visit a glimpse of what it was like back then," said Sarah Andelman, founder and creative director of colette.
David Fisher, founder and CEO of Highsnobiety, also released the following statement:
"The news of Colette's closure sent shock waves through the global fashion industry. It is a great pride for me and for Highsnobiety that we have been able to revive Colette's legacy on the street and in the fashion scene through this documentary."
