The French film "PLAY: 25 Years' Worth of Last Scenes," which was officially selected for the 2019 San Sebastian International Film Festival and garnered attention for its innovative production techniques, will be released nationwide from November 6th at Shinjuku Musashinokan, YEBISU GARDEN CINEMA, and other cinemas.

A story of "rebirth" set in Paris and colored by 90s culture
The film realistically recreates the atmosphere of Paris at that time through a process that connects together home video footage shot by the protagonist over a 25-year period from the 1990s to the 2010s.

Popular comedian Max Boublil plays the protagonist, Max, who "plays" through life with classic songs that evoke the eras of 90s culture, by musicians such as Jamiroquai, Oasis, Lenny Kravitz, and Alanis Morissette. Boublil was impressed with the idea of his friend and director Anthony Marciano, and co-wrote the screenplay for the film.

In addition, ahead of the film's release, the trailer has been released. Be sure to check it out first.

The newly released Japanese trailer begins with 30-year-old protagonist Max telling his selfie camera, "I've been filming for 25 years. Let's start from the beginning," before transitioning to himself at age 13, picking up a video camera for the first time.

We see scenes of his family, the smiles of friends he'd messed around with, the wild parties he'd had at the France FIFA World Cup, and even his first love, Emma, asking him, "Do you love me?", unable to respond, only realizing his true nature after losing her... We also see Max deciding to prepare the final scene of the "film." To recreate the atmosphere of the era, director Anthony Marciano spent six months conducting camera tests to approximate the video quality of the 1990s. He also deliberately included inaudible dialogue to create the rough feel of a rushed film, and he even went to great lengths to edit the sound in a way that goes against the norm. Furthermore, while major world-shaking events such as the 9/11 attacks in the United States and the 2015 Paris terrorist attacks occurred between the 1990s and 2010s, these were edited out. The director explains why: "Max doesn't use a video camera to capture the sad events in his life. He became obsessed with the camera because he wanted to record the ordinary joys of everyday life and the important people who were always by his side."

In the current situation in which the world is forced to adapt to a new lifestyle in 2020, we often realize just how important it is to spend time with friends and loved ones. However, it is precisely at this time that the thoughts that the director has put into this film will resonate even more deeply with us. Be sure to see this story of starting your own life in the theater.
