A Paris shop launched by a former Colette employee is a hot topic!

Jan 20, 2018
At the end of last year, the famous Parisian select shop "Colette" closed its doors after 20 years of business. It was a constant source of buzz, displaying products from both unknown young designers and luxury brands alike, with weekly changing window displays, and hosting music events and book signings. Colette's closure, which led the fashion scene as a pioneering concept store, led some in the fashion industry to fear a decline in Paris's overall vitality. However, roughly two weeks after the store's closure on December 20th, news broke that a former Colette employee would be opening a new shop!

That new shop is "nous," which pre-opened on January 8th on Rue Cambon, where luxury boutiques such as CHANEL line the streets. The store, whose name means "we" in French, was launched by Sebastien Chapelle, who spent 14 years in charge of high-tech and watches at Colette, and Marvin Dein, who spent nine years in charge of Colette's streetwear and sneaker departments. Its mission is to "curate carefully selected items with talent from around the world," and it primarily offers men's items.

The approximately 150-square-meter store features a simple interior with concrete walls and a black motif. On the day of the pre-opening, a limited edition color of the Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus 5T was on sale, and people lined up before the store even opened. In addition to the smartphone, fans will also find exclusive items such as a Rolex customized by Bamford. Products on offer include streetwear and designer brands such as Born x Raised, NEIGHBORHOOD, and Death By Dolls, as well as sneakers from Converse and Vans, and limited-edition skateboards from THE SKATEROOM featuring Andy Warhol paintings and Nobuyoshi Araki photographs. Mizensir candles, magazines, eyewear, cameras, and other miscellaneous goods and equipment are also available.

Going forward, the store will focus on exclusives and collaborations, and will be dedicated to supporting young creators. With a completely different concept from Colette, this is the birth of a store with strong ties to street culture. With the closure of Colette expected to bring major changes to distribution in Paris, we will be keeping a close eye on not only this store but future developments.
