Obusedo x Cacao Hanare present three types of "Chestnut Chocolate Japanese Sweets" made with carefully selected ingredients and techniques.

Sep 1, 2023
Cacao Hanare was established as a detached building of the main store of Maison Cacao, a specialty aromatic raw chocolate shop originating in Kamakura. The shop values craftsmanship that maximizes the quality of the ingredients while minimizing their processing. This marks the second year of the collaboration with Obusedo, a renowned shop in Obuse, Nagano Prefecture, known as the land of chestnuts. Obusedo has been creating Japanese and Western-style chestnut confections for over 100 years, using generous amounts of chestnut paste carefully cultivated and prepared over the years. This year, the two brands once again combined their ingredients and techniques to create the ultimate Japanese chestnut confection. Starting September 1st, three new sweets will be available for a limited time: Hanare Terrine, Hanare Monaka, and Nama Dorayaki.

Obusedo and Cacao Hanare Japanese Chestnut Terrine

"Obusedo and Cacao Hanare Japanese Chestnut Terrine" (3,780 yen including tax)
This Japanese chestnut chocolate terrine was created in pursuit of the perfect marriage of Obusedo's special chestnut paste and Colombian chocolate. The chestnut paste is made using Japanese chestnuts harvested in the fall while they are still fresh, using the same method as when the company was founded, and is made using only chestnuts and sugar. The smooth chestnut paste, which captures the natural flavor of the chestnuts, is combined with Colombian caramel-flavored milk chocolate to bring out the chestnut's natural gentle and deep flavor. After repeated trial and error, this product has been carefully crafted to achieve the ultimate melt-in-your-mouth texture and chestnut flavor, allowing you to enjoy the lingering combination of chestnut and chocolate.

The packaging uses luxurious washi paper from Taki Paper Mill, which has been producing Echizen washi paper in Echizen City, Fukui Prefecture for approximately 150 years. The original design, inspired by Obusedo and Cacao Hanare, was created by Taki Paper Mill, which discovers new possibilities for washi paper by combining it with modern design while preserving traditional techniques. As each product is handmade, the design is unique.

Obusedo and Cacao Hanare Japanese Chestnut Monaka

"Obusedo and Cacao Hanare Japanese Chestnut Monaka" 5-piece set (3,780 yen including tax)
Inside a chewy pastry featuring the family crests of both the Obusedo and Cacao Hanare brands is an airy cream filled with a blend of two types of Colombian chocolate, Obusedo chestnuts, and chestnut paste. In order to bring out the natural flavor of the chestnuts, candied chestnuts, carefully crafted with a focus on sweetness and texture, are hidden inside, wrapped in smooth chestnut paste. Now in its second year, the product has been revamped to bring out the flavor of the Japanese chestnut and enhance its pairing with chocolate.

Obusedo and Cacao Hanare Japanese Chestnut Dorayaki

"Obusedo and Cacao Hanare Japanese Chestnut Dorayaki" (702 yen including tax)
This dorayaki is made using mirin, which has a deep sweetness and complex flavor, and is slowly baked on a copper plate to create a four-layer interior. The homemade chocolate bean paste is a combination of richly fragrant bitter chocolate from Colombia and coarse bean paste from Hokkaido, topped with refreshing fresh cream made with cacao fruit vinegar. It is a Mont Blanc-style fresh dorayaki topped with Obusedo's special candied chestnuts and a smooth chestnut paste.

Cacao Hanare, which has always been committed to proposing ways to enjoy chocolate throughout the seasons, has collaborated with Obusedo, which has explored new possibilities in chestnut confections. This is a seasonal limited edition item that allows you to experience the chestnut paste passed down through generations and the allure of Colombian cacao on a deeper level, and is a must-try.
