Conrad Tokyo's Afternoon Tea features a diverse blend of Japanese ingredients and matcha

Event Date:2023.05.08-07.02
Mar 26, 2023
Conrad Tokyo (Minato Ward, Tokyo) will begin serving the second installment of its highly acclaimed Matcha Afternoon Tea at its bar and lounge "Twenty Eight" from May 8th. This year, titled "Matcha Afternoon Tea in Zen Garden," the tea will combine matcha with domestically produced ingredients, with a lineup of sweets and savory dishes that offer a diverse range of pairings. This afternoon tea can be enjoyed as you admire the view, as if admiring a dry landscape garden, and then savored slowly in your mouth.

Matcha Afternoon Tea at Zen Garden

Five desserts will be available, including "Matcha and Shizuoka Mikkabi Mandarin Jelly," which combines matcha panna cotta with Mikkabi mandarins, which have a good balance of sweetness and sourness; "Matcha and Kumamoto Chestnut Mont Blanc," which combines the bittersweetness of matcha with the sweetness of chestnut; and "Aichi Organic Matcha Mousse," a rich mousse made by combining organic Aichi matcha and Uji matcha. Also available: "Matcha Choux," which combines matcha with cream cheese, thick-sliced bacon, and smoked pickles. There are three savory dishes, including "Akita Prefecture Smoked Pickles and Bacon" and "Matcha Bread, Kagoshima Prefecture New Burdock, and Chicken Tartine with Yuzu Flavor," which combines the umami of burdock and the aroma of matcha with a refreshing accent of yuzu. There are also two types of popular moist scones: plain and one made with matcha and Shinshu miso, served with clotted cream and Setouchi lemon jam. Lupicia black and herbal teas are available for unlimited refills. There is a selection of around 20 drinks to choose from, including coffee and soft drinks.

"Matcha Afternoon Tea in Zen Garden" Menu

Matcha and Mikkabi Mandarin Jelly from Shizuoka Prefecture
This adorable glass dessert features orange and pastel green colors, with wasanbon jelly and Mikkabi mandarin jelly from Shizuoka Prefecture layered on top of matcha panna cotta.

Mont Blanc with Matcha and Kumamoto Chestnuts
A sponge cake made with a mixture of matcha and chestnut paste is topped with matcha cream squeezed into the shape of a chrysanthemum, chestnut cream placed in the center, and chestnuts simmered in their skins. The bitter taste of the matcha goes perfectly with the sweetness of the chestnuts.

Aichi Prefecture Organic Matcha Mousse
Organic matcha from Aichi Prefecture and Uji matcha are combined to create a rich mousse, then sprayed with matcha chocolate for a matte finish. It also pairs perfectly with bitter chocolate cookies.

Matcha tart and Okinawan shikwasa mousse
The tart is filled with a combination of salted caramel ganache and matcha ganache, and is garnished with coarsely chopped matcha chocolate. It is topped with Okinawan shikwasa mousse. It is inspired by rocks covered in moss.

Matcha and Tochiaika strawberry mousse from Tochigi Prefecture
A Yame matcha sable is topped with matcha mousse and Tochiaika strawberry mousse from Tochigi Prefecture. The contrast between the pink of the strawberries and the green of the matcha makes this a cute dish. It is topped with chocolate shaped like tea leaves and red currants.

Matcha Choux with Akita Smoked Daikon and Bacon
A satisfying dish made with a choux pastry filled with matcha as a secret ingredient, thick-sliced bacon, a colorful cream made from matcha powder and cream cheese, cashew nuts, and diced Akita Smoked Daikon.

Matcha Bread, Kagoshima Prefecture New Burdock, and Chicken Tartine with Yuzu Flavor
A square matcha bread filled with burdock, yuzu-flavored chicken with charcoal powder, and ricotta cheese, and garnished with chips made from Kagoshima Prefecture new burdock. The umami of the burdock and the aroma of matcha will fill your mouth.

Hokkaido Kitaakari Vichyssoise with Matcha Espuma
Hokkaido Kitaakari vichyssoise, which has a smooth texture, is made into a mousse and layered with matcha espuma, topped with rice cakes and micro Detroit cookies to create the appearance of a small garden.
