[Tokyo Collection 2013 Spring/Summer] "Matofu" - everyday materials "looked like" with a "Japanese" sensibility

Dec 2, 2012

Matofu presented its 2013 Spring/Summer collection. The theme was "Mitate" (Representation). The brand's creations reflected the Japanese sensibility of finding new uses for ordinary objects by shifting perspectives.

The collection was created by "mitate" (representing) textiles and materials not typically used in clothing. The fabric, which at first glance appears stiff and stiff, like a curtain, was an original design with a soft texture. The linen fabric, made of interlocking triangles, evokes the atmosphere of a worn velvet sofa cover. The large rope accessories are the work of Claudia Savill, an artist the brand encountered in Brazil.

While Matofu often features linear shapes such as long kimonos and wide-leg pants, this time the brand used lace and curved cuts to add a feminine touch. The collection was finished with a subdued look, using pale colors throughout.

The show featured models moving around in sequence around a space divided into four sections. "I wanted to make it like an installation so that as many people as possible could see it up close. I created the clothes by adding elements, such as pattern on pattern and material on material," said designer Horihata Hiroyuki.
