Tokyo Collection 2013 Spring/Summer: Facetasm Mixes Various Elements with a Dub-Style Tokyo Flavor

Dec 2, 2012

The Spring/Summer 2013 Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Tokyo kicked off with a Facetasm show, following a ribbon-cutting reception by Namie Amuro. The men's runway began with women's models standing in a shaft of light that fell like an arrow. The opening look featured a motley mix of dark, shiny materials, long tops balanced with shorts and loincloths, and layered pieces with her signature striped and printed pieces. The women's collection also featured a similar aesthetic to the men's, adding a touch of femininity with see-through and lace fabrics. Looks that emphasized a more elevated styling style were also prominent. For example, ruffles were used to accentuate the bustline, and bra tops were styled with a belt around the waistline, and high-waisted skirts and pants were also seen. Items that emphasized the back also featured, such as trench coats with cut-off fronts and ruffled skirts with bustle-like volume. The theme was "FLAVOR." "I wanted to create a new sensation by combining colors, textiles, classic and modern elements and bringing them together with the brand's signature flavor," said designer Ochiai Hiromichi.

The show's opening music was "Flowers of Romance," the first song recorded in the '80s by PiL, the band formed by John Lydon after the Sex Pistols disbanded, and a precursor to '80s dub. The iconic post-punk album, which can be found in Undercover shops and elsewhere, was a perfect match for this collection. Fashion week kicked off with a brand that inherits the vibe of Tokyo's streets.
