Machi Machi, the Taiwanese tea shop that's garnering the most attention, known for its "divine cheese tea," is making its debut in Japan. Its first Japanese store will open at Laforet Harajuku on June 26th.

Machi Machi is a cheese tea specialty shop that's become a hot topic in the Taiwanese media after being featured in the area. They serve a unique dessert drink, made by pouring a rich, salty cheese cream called a cheese cap over each cup of carefully brewed Taiwanese tea. This spring, they opened a store in Piccadilly Circus in central London, sparking a boom not just in Asia but around the world.

The first Japanese store, opening in Laforet Harajuku, will sell around 20 types of drinks based on five types of Taiwanese tea: Oolong Tieguanyin Tea, Sun Moon Lake Black Tea, Four Seasons Spring Tea, Jasmine Green Tea, and Zi Lan Highland Black Tea, which can be customized with your own sweetness and toppings.

In addition, drinks exclusive to the Laforet Harajuku store will include the Cheese Tea Float (896 yen including tax) and Brulee Milk Tea (734 yen including tax), both topped with rich cheese soft serve ice cream.

For the three days from the opening day (May 22nd to 24th), the first 100 people each day will receive an original "drink holder with tin badge" by showing a follow screen on the official Instagram account (@machimachi_japan).

In advance of the opening of the first store, a pop-up shop will be open in Jiyugaoka (1-26-18 Jiyugaoka, Meguro-ku, Chestnut Hills 2, 1st floor) from May 22nd to June 16th. The shop has a playful design, with neon signs and wall art on mortar walls just like in the home country.

The drink lineup consists of three types: "Oolong Tieguanyin Cheese Tea" (480 yen), which allows you to enjoy the contrast between the refreshing Taiwanese tea "Oolong Tieguanyin" and the rich cheese cap; "Wild Berry Cheese Tea" (680 yen), a frozen tea made with two types of berries and jasmine green tea topped with rich cheese soft serve ice cream; and the photogenic "Strawberry Milk Panna Cotta" (630 yen), a bottle with two layers of panna cotta and strawberry milk.
