Pacific DRIVE-IN, a popular Hawaiian cafe located along Shichirigahama Beach in a spectacular location offering panoramic views of Enoshima and Mt. Fuji, is opening its second location in Lumine Est Shinjuku tomorrow (December 19th), its first in Tokyo, so I headed over right away!

The first location, Pacific Drive-In Shichirigahama, opened in March 2015 and recreates the local Hawaiian culture of spending a leisurely morning eating breakfast at a drive-in. This popular cafe, based on the concept of a "Hawaiian plate lunch," is known for its generous portions of dishes like garlic shrimp, a specialty of Kahuku, Hawaii, and fried mochiko chicken, all served on a plate. It's one of the busiest cafes in Shichirigahama.

The long-awaited second location of this popular cafe has opened in "THE PARK SHINJUKU," the food area on the 8th floor of the newly renovated Lumine Est Shinjuku. The interior design, by Kunichi Nomura (TRIPSTER), retains the same feel as the original store, with natural wood interiors and an open kitchen. Painter Tomonori Maru's sign paintings and Shizuno Rai's photographs adorning the walls create a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere reminiscent of the beaches of Shonan or Hawaii.

Next, the menu. The Shinjuku store was also overseen by Jun Nakamura of Kyoto's Nakamura General Store, who gained experience as a pastry chef at Diamond Head Market & Grill, a Hawaiian restaurant known for its plate lunches and scones. The signature "Garlic Shrimp Plate" and the "Mochiko Chicken Plate," made with crispy, tender mochi flour fried chicken, are sure to be a hit, but be sure to check out the wide variety of Shinjuku-exclusive dishes available for the first time.
