Pacific DRIVE-IN, a popular Hawaiian cafe located along Shichirigahama Beach in a spectacular location offering panoramic views of Enoshima and Mt. Fuji, is opening its second location in Lumine Est Shinjuku tomorrow (December 19th), its first in Tokyo, so I headed over right away!

The first location, Pacific Drive-In Shichirigahama, opened in March 2015 and recreates the local Hawaiian culture of spending a leisurely morning eating breakfast at a drive-in. This popular cafe, based on the concept of a "Hawaiian plate lunch," is known for its generous portions of dishes like garlic shrimp, a specialty of Kahuku, Hawaii, and fried mochiko chicken, all served on a plate. It's one of the busiest cafes in Shichirigahama.

Garlic Shrimp/Mochiko Chicken Mix Plate (¥1,600)

The long-awaited second location of this popular cafe has opened in "THE PARK SHINJUKU," the food area on the 8th floor of the newly renovated Lumine Est Shinjuku. The interior design, by Kunichi Nomura (TRIPSTER), retains the same feel as the original store, with natural wood interiors and an open kitchen. Painter Tomonori Maru's sign paintings and Shizuno Rai's photographs adorning the walls create a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere reminiscent of the beaches of Shonan or Hawaii.

Next, the menu. The Shinjuku store was also overseen by Jun Nakamura of Kyoto's Nakamura General Store, who gained experience as a pastry chef at Diamond Head Market & Grill, a Hawaiian restaurant known for its plate lunches and scones. The signature "Garlic Shrimp Plate" and the "Mochiko Chicken Plate," made with crispy, tender mochi flour fried chicken, are sure to be a hit, but be sure to check out the wide variety of Shinjuku-exclusive dishes available for the first time.

Coconut Chicken Plate (1,350 yen)
Chicken simmered in a coconut-based yellow curry flavor, scented with lemongrass.

Teriyaki Pork Plate (1,450 yen)
A hearty Hawaiian local dish featuring large pieces of pork coated in a sweet teriyaki sauce.

Pineapple & Kale Salad (880 yen)
This refreshing salad features juicy grilled pineapple and kale, cottage cheese, quinoa, and other ingredients tossed in vinegar.

Grilled Spam Salad (880 yen)
A hearty salad with fluffy scrambled eggs topped with grilled Spam. The sweet and salty sauce is sure to whet your appetite.

In addition to the food, be sure to check out the drinks exclusive to this restaurant. Other special Shinjuku-exclusive drinks include the "Lilikoi Lemonade," boldly topped with lilikoi, a classic Hawaiian fruit; the "Matcha Lemonade," with its rich matcha flavor; the "Caramel Coffee & Popcorn Shake," with its photogenic appearance and refreshing, sophisticated sweetness; and the "Chocolate Mint & Cookie Shake," with everyone's favorite chocolate mint.

For dessert, we recommend the fluffy, large "Buttermilk Pancakes," a replica of local Hawaiian pancakes. Enjoy the simple flavor with whipped cream and maple syrup. We also recommend the Shinjuku-exclusive "Seasonal Pancakes" (1,300 yen), which change with the seasons!

Unique to Pacific Drive-In, all of the menu items listed above are available for takeout. You can easily pack the food in a lunch box and take it home while enjoying the Hawaiian atmosphere.

And when you think of Pacific Drive-In, you think of the delicious scones from Nakamura General Store. This time, the Shinjuku location will also feature the Pasific Bakery as a shop-in-shop.

Blue Cream Cheese Scones (360 yen) are now available in Shinjuku!

The cafe also has an original goods sales corner. Don't miss the relaxed and stylish items featuring illustrations of Enoshima, Mt. Fuji, and surfers by illustrator face, such as T-shirts, key chains, and tote bags.
