Amazon Fashion's in-house photography studio opened on March 15th in Shinagawa Seaside, Tokyo. The interior has been unveiled.
This new studio, the fourth to open after Brooklyn, New York, London, and Delhi, India, has a total floor area of 7,500 square meters, making it the largest within the Amazon group.
Amazon.co.jp was launched in 2000, followed by an apparel, shoes, and watch store in 2007 and a jewelry store in 2009. Amazon Fashion was then launched in 2014, and the company has been the title sponsor of Tokyo Fashion Week (Tokyo Collection) since 2016. In 2017, Amazon Fashion began stocking over 1,000 new brands, including Calvin Klein, Vendome Aoyama, Urban Research, KBF, and Adore. The site also offers a variety of stores tailored to customer needs, including the "AT TOKYO" BRAND STORE, where customers can find the latest items from Tokyo's most iconic brands; "Amazon Kicks," a collaboration with mita sneakers, atmos, and Styles, which offers a wide selection of sneakers, from limited editions to classics; and the "Suits Store," where customers can purchase items from famous suit stores like Aoki and Haruyama all in one place. Amazon Fashion is vigorously expanding its business in Japan. The new studio is large, with a lounge, conference room, library, 11 still photography areas, five videography areas, two editorial studios, and on-site hair and makeup artists and stylists. With these facilities, Amazon will be able to fully launch a service over the next few years that allows customers to view videos of all of the millions of fashion items available on Amazon. Amazon will also continue to strengthen its support for Japan's fashion scene by inviting students to fashion shows by Tokyo-based brands such as Mame Kurogouchi, AMBUSH, and NEIGHBORHOOD, which will be held as part of the special "AT TOKYO" program at Amazon Fashion Week TOKYO, which begins on March 19. As part of the program, Amazon will also provide free studio space to young designers. One brand's show is also scheduled to be held in the studio this season.
Jasper Chan, President of Amazon Japan, said, "Japan is one of Amazon's global focus regions. It has been 17 years since we started business in Japan, but we believe there is more we can do to better serve our customers. We hope that this opening will lead to the creation of new jobs, and at the same time, Amazon will continue to invest heavily in Japan so that we can provide the best possible service to our customers." James Peters, Vice President and General Manager of the Fashion Business Unit at Amazon Japan G.K., commented, "We are thrilled to open the largest photo studio in Amazon Fashion's history today in Tokyo, a city that attracts global attention as the birthplace of fashion trends. Amazon has grown to become one of the leading online fashion sites in Japan. Our goal is to ensure that customers have an enjoyable experience using Amazon Fashion as a place to purchase fashion items. We are always looking to improve the experience customers have when purchasing fashion items online. The higher-resolution photos and videos taken and produced in this studio will enable customers to check the color, cut, size, texture, and more in greater detail on the site. Amazon Fashion will continue to work hard to make the shopping experience even better for our customers."
