ISSEY MIYAKE will open its new street-front store, "ISSEY MIYAKE KYOTO," in the ancient capital of Kyoto on March 17th.


The store, housed in a renovated 132-year-old townhouse, blends tradition and innovation with a tranquil atmosphere, based on a black ink color scheme. The project was undertaken by Naoto Fukasawa, a product designer active both in Japan and overseas, known for his outstanding beauty and simple designs, from watches to home appliances and interior design.

The store will mainly feature three brands: "HOMME PLISSÉ ISSEY MIYAKE," "ISSEY MIYAKE MEN," and "BAO BAO ISSEY MIYAKE."


In addition, the permanent KURA gallery is located at the back of the two-story main building. As a communication space connecting ISSEY MIYAKE's craftsmanship with people and cultures from both the east and west of Kyoto, the gallery changes with the changing seasons and showcases a wide variety of endeavors.
It will be a "place" where traditional Japanese techniques and ISSEY MIYAKE's approach and spirit to clothing are beautifully combined.

To coincide with the opening, the gallery will host a special exhibition of the third series, "IKKO TANAKA ISSEY MIYAKE," featuring the work of graphic designer Ikko Tanaka.
