Burberry presented its Fall/Winter 2022 collection as a live runway show, its first in two years.
Celebrating British culture, the show explored the diverse perspectives and dualities that make up British identity. Contrasting London with England, and glitzy formality with punk culture, the show explored the concept of Britishness not as a stereotype, but as a forward-thinking, adventurous attitude filled with possibility. Inspired by London, the brand's creative and spiritual home for over 130 years and the family to which it belongs, the show captured the essence of Britain that Burberry continues to embody.

Both womenswear and menswear draw on the brand's rich history and house codes, reimagining heritage with a playful twist. Contrasting formal attire with subcultural influences, classic British staples and brand icons are reinterpreted in new ways, materials and silhouettes. Autumnal colours are plentiful in the collection, and crystal embellishments inspired by English countryside eveningwear are featured. Icons from the Burberry archives, such as the knight on horseback and the oak leaf crest, are revived, with an innovative interpretation of the classic trench coat.

The collection was presented in a spectacular venue within Central Hall Westminster in central London, with its historic dome and giant organ as a backdrop. The floor of the Great Hall was painted in Burberry's signature brown tones, transforming it into an opulent private dining room. Starting in complete darkness, the show began with models descending the stairs, weaving through the audience and ascending to illuminated high tables. Accompanied by music by Max Richter, Philip Glass, and Michael Nyman, performed live by the London Contemporary Orchestra, the audience's emotions were reflected in the voices of a 100-person choir.

"It was important to me to explore what it means to belong, how our roots influence our identity, and what community and the power of coming together actually mean in the world.
So I wanted the collection to convey that strength, to celebrate not just coming together, but the places where we come together. London is where Burberry was born, where we grew up, and where we built our family. To me, London is a place of dreams, a capital built on heritage, a place that unites diverse communities and a boundary-pushing attitude in the pursuit of limitless possibilities.
The collection embodies the intangible essence of Britishness: celebrating our incredible past while looking to the future. With gratitude, hope, and love."
