Mary Quant celebrates its 60th anniversary with new retro-cute fashion and cosmetics

Jan 26, 2015

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the founding of Mary Quant. Since opening its first store, "BAZAAR," in London in 1955, the brand has continued to offer a wide variety of items based on the concept of "Be Free and Be Yourself," unconstrained by established rules and free-thinking. This commemorative anniversary year will see the brand's theme of "TRUST YOUR SENSE" and its spring collection of cosmetics and fashion that expresses "Be active." Fashion creator Mary Quant was born in England in 1934. She is also known as the creator of the miniskirt, which became a huge hit in the 1960s. In recognition of her achievements in the fashion world, she was awarded an OBE (Order of the British Empire, Fourth Class) in 1966, and at the beginning of this year, marking the brand's 60th anniversary, she was awarded the title of Dame (Order of the British Empire, Second Class), the equivalent of a knight for men. This theme also serves as a message from Mary to women who are active in modern society and who are true to themselves. "I believe fashion always renews us. It's something to enjoy, the spice of life. Mary Quant will continue to bring excitement to the changing times and to women all over the world," says Mary.

The collection features cute, retro-pop fashion reminiscent of Swinging London in the 1960s. The light, spring-like open-collar polka dot dress (16,000 yen) is filled with 1960s-inspired details, such as a vivid red enamel belt and covered buttons that stand out against the monochrome polka dot pattern. The double-breasted pleated dress (22,000 yen) features box pleats for a stylish, traditional look.

The accessories that complete the style also feature retro-pop designs that brighten up spring fashion. The Enamel Circle Daisy 2-Way Boston Bag (13,000 yen), featuring a two-tone daisy design reminiscent of Mary Quant, comes with a detachable shoulder strap, allowing it to be used as both a Boston bag and a shoulder bag. The Daisy Union Jack series necklace and earrings (both 3,600 yen), featuring the Union Jack motif that symbolizes this season, have a bold design and are recommended as accents for simple styles. Also, new spring cosmetics will be released for a limited time on February 6th. The Eye Opener (eye shadow) comes in four colors (1,200 yen each), including pinkish orange for a pop and active look and psychedelic yellow for an energetic and powerful look. The Lip Mix (lipstick), which enhances the skin tone, comes in two colors (1,200 yen each): sheer bisque orange and semi-matte clever red. Additionally, a limited edition "Fiction Eye Kit (5,200 yen)" will be available, which includes a waterproof eyeliner, double-ended mascara, and highlighter. Enjoy a vibrant makeup look with bold, 60s-style eyeliner and colorful eyeshadow.
