Hermès Gion store turns into skate park with new "Silk" event

Feb 23, 2017

The Hermès Gion store (570-8 Gion-cho Minamigawa, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture) will kick off a new event on March 3rd with a new look.
Opened for a limited nine-month period in November 2016, the Hermès Gion store offers a variety of seasonally-changing designs in the Gion district of Kyoto. This fourth event will focus on silk. A rich variety of scarf collections will be featured, including the Carré, beloved by generations since its creation, the popular Carré Juan, made from high-quality cashmere silk, the Twilly, which can be worn as an accessory, and the Maxi Twilly Cut, which can be worn as a stole.
The store's three-dimensional lattice design, inspired by traditional Japanese techniques, will be transformed into a skate park, with a skate ramp in the center of the first floor. There, visitors can enjoy a light installation featuring a Maxi Twilly Cut skateboard moving along in a flowing motion.

The second floor of the store will also be transformed into a skate park-style space, featuring a video corner showing girls wearing Maxi Twilly Cut enjoying skateboarding, as well as a photo booth resembling a skate ramp. Photos taken while feeling the wind as if they were riding a skateboard can be printed or enjoyed on a smartphone.

In addition, the Hermès Gion store and online boutique will be offering advance sales of all three Maxi Twilly Cut designs ("Exlibris Tie," "Cavalcadour Horse," and "Whip Block"; each priced at 42,000 yen), which combine the world of horses, the brand's roots, with modern motifs such as geometric patterns. The event is scheduled to run until March 29th.
