Fashion brand 45R will be holding a pop-up event called "Nuno Sansai" (Fabric Sansai) at The Stage on the first floor of Isetan Shinjuku from the 16th until the 22nd.
During the Tang Dynasty, green, red, and indigo tri-colored pottery was called "Tang Sancai," and its artistry was transmitted from East to West along the Silk Road. Just as this same artistry is reflected in the three colors of Japanese textiles—natural, madder, and indigo—named "Fabric Sancai," this event aims to promote traditional Japanese techniques to the world through clothing.
The newly developed material is a blend of high-quality Supima cotton and Shetland wool, spun into fluffy yarn on a wool spinning machine and woven in Hanamaki, Iwate Prefecture, Japan's tweed mecca. The store offers knitwear and jackets in three colors that can be said to be the origins of colors that Japanese people have used in their daily lives since ancient times: "Non-dai" which brings out the natural texture of raw wool and cotton, "Akane" which is a vivid red made from red iron oxide, and "Indigo" which shows beautiful shades ranging from light yellow to deep blue.
In addition to the "Nuno Sansai" series which includes knitwear, coats, dresses and jackets, the store will also offer horse leather items dyed with "Kyoto Natural Indigo", which was developed by Kyoto dyeing artisans over a period of 10 years.
