The former Toyoko Line Shibuya Station site will be open for a limited time as "Ekiato"! The station space, including the "crumb roof," that has been loved for 85 years will be used as is.

Jan 20, 2013

Tokyu Corporation will open the former Toyoko Line Shibuya Station building as a limited-time event space called "SHIBUYA ekiato" from March 26 to May 6, 2013. Using the station's approximately 5-meter-high ceiling, the platform will feature a raised floor plan, while retaining the "crumb roof." The approximately 2,350-square-meter space can accommodate approximately 2,000 people. The convenient location, a former Toyoko Line departure and arrival station, is a selling point, and the space is expected to host a wide range of events, including retail, dining, exhibitions, and presentations. Toyoko Line Shibuya Station opened in 1927, and the current station building opened in 1964. However, with the start of through service with the Tokyo Metro Fukutoshin Line on March 16, 2013, the above-ground station will cease operation.
