8/ ART GALLERY/ Tomio Koyama Gallery, located in Tokyo's Shibuya Hikarie, will be holding a Mika Ninagawa exhibition starting Wednesday, December 19th. Admission is free.
After graduating from Tama Art University in 1997, Mika Ninagawa has won numerous awards, including the Kimura Ihei Photography Award, often referred to as the photography world's Akutagawa Prize, in 2001. She has held over 80 solo exhibitions both in Japan and abroad, including two solo exhibitions in Taipei last year and a two-person exhibition with Daido Moriyama, "Moriyama Daido x Ninagawa Mika," in Kyoto.
In recent years, she has expanded her scope of activity, directing films such as "Sakuran" and "Helter Skelter," and collaborating with fashion brands such as CELINE and mastermind JAPAN. This exhibition features works from the "Acid Bloom" and "Liquid Dreams" series (both 2003), the "floating yesterday" (2004) series, and the "noir" (2010) series. The works, which capture the fleeting brilliance of flowers, animals, goldfish, landscapes, and more, have a unique, vibrant color palette and depict a variety of emotions and unrealistic worlds.
