Alice's Dessert Buffet Returns to Hilton Tokyo! Dark Cakes and Tarts from the "Moody Queen of Hearts"

Aug 10, 2016

The Marble Lounge on the first floor of Hilton Tokyo will be hosting a dessert fair called "Alice and the Queen of Hearts' Challenge" from September 3rd to October 31st.

This fair is the second installment of "Alice's Invitation," a dessert fair based on the world of Lewis Carroll's "Alice in Wonderland," which runs until August 27th. The first installment, featuring an Alice world with overwhelming cuteness and attention to detail, spread mainly on social media, and the fair was fully booked almost immediately after it started, right up to the final day of the fair.

This second installment, "Alice and the Queen of Hearts' Challenge," is inspired by the various episodes that unfold between Alice and the evil Queen of Hearts in the second half of the story, and expresses a world of Alice that is not just cute, but also a slightly darker, more twisted, and more mature. The "Paint It Red Roll Cake," inspired by the episode in which the playing cards paint the white roses in the rose garden red to avoid upsetting the Queen of Hearts, is a roll cake filled with an overflowing berry cream wrapped in rose-scented sponge cake. The "Trump Tart," inspired by the four playing cards, comes in four flavors: blueberry, strawberry, raspberry, and cherry, and features a heart, spade, diamond, and club design. Also featured are two Queen's Tarts: the "Pear and Raspberry Tart" and the "Muscat and Almond Tart," inspired by the story's climax, the episode in Wonderland court where the villain who stole the Queen's tart is uncovered. The two-tiered cherry cream puff, "Religieuse," is inspired by the Queen's catchphrase, "Cut off her head!" In addition to the adorable "My Little Aristo Rifle," a glass with layers of strawberries, sponge cake, and cream, you can also enjoy the popular "Eat me Cookie," which continues from last time, "Drink me Drink me," made with strawberries and black tapioca, and various madeleines and macarons.

At the Action Station, you can enjoy "Croffles" baked right in front of you by a chef, "Cold Marble Ice Cream," where you can customize your favorite ice cream with cookies and fruit, and the bright red "Queen's Chocolate Fountain," which you can enjoy with marshmallows, strawberries, and brownies.

Dark and slightly spooky Halloween sweets will also be available. Be sure to check out David's playful and unique lineup, including the "Eyeball Cupcake" with realistic eyes made from marshmallows and jelly, the "Spider Net Cake" with a black spider web on an orange cake, the "Black Sesame and Pumpkin Roll Cake," and the "Poison Shot"—a taste you won't imagine until you try it.

Continuing from the first event, artwork by internationally renowned printmaker Nishiwaki Mitsushige will be displayed on the buffet table, along with Alice merchandise from popular Harajuku concept shop Wednesday Alice and the "Queen of Hearts Chair," the perfect photo spot. The fair will be open every day from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM, with prices priced at 3,600 yen on weekdays and 3,720 yen on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
