Gucci will release a Japan-exclusive charity bracelet to support the education of children affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake. It will be available at Gucci shops nationwide from the 13th.
The bracelet features a woven mystic white and red leather design, inspired by Japan. It features a silver charm engraved with Gucci's iconic "Interlocking G" and the word "JAPAN." It is unisex and available in two sizes. It is priced at 15,750 yen, and each purchase is limited to one. All proceeds will be donated to the UNESCO Association Tuition Support Scholarship - GUCCI Scholarship.
The UNESCO Association Tuition Support Scholarship is a program that provides non-repayable scholarships to elementary and junior high school students in Iwate, Miyagi, and Fukushima prefectures, which suffered significant economic hardship following the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake. To date, 1,736 students have received the scholarship. Gucci has endorsed this program and is providing three-year scholarships to 57 third-year junior high school students living in Minamisoma City, Fukushima Prefecture, and the launch of these charity bracelets aims to expand this support.
Gucci has been supporting children's education on a global scale since 2005. Following the Great East Japan Earthquake, its parent company, PPR (now Kering), donated 2 million euros (approximately 230 million yen) to the disaster-stricken areas through the Red Cross. Gucci donates all proceeds from sales of charity items. Last year, the brand co-hosted a charity event with Living National Treasure and Kabuki actor Nakamura Kichiemon, donating approximately 40 million yen to the UNESCO Association's educational support scholarship program.
