Gucci Japan announced that it will provide three-year scholarships to 57 third-year junior high school students in Minamisoma City, Fukushima Prefecture, through the UNESCO Association School Support Scholarship - Gucci Scholarship Program. The UNESCO Association School Support Scholarship program provides non-repayable scholarships to elementary and junior high school students in Iwate, Miyagi, and Fukushima prefectures, which were hit hard by the economic downturn following the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake. To date, 1,736 children have received scholarships. Since 2005, Gucci has been supporting children's education on a global scale. Following the Great East Japan Earthquake, its parent company, the PPR Group, donated 2 million euros (approximately 230 million yen), and Gucci has also sold charity items, donating 100% of the proceeds to the Japanese Red Cross.
In 2012, the brand also launched charity items and donated all proceeds, and co-hosted "A Night to Support Children in Tohoku" with Kabuki actor and Living National Treasure Nakamura Kichiemon and Gucci. The entire amount raised, approximately 40 million yen, was donated to the UNESCO Association's educational support scholarship program.
