REC COFFEE, a specialty coffee shop based in Fukuoka, will begin selling a new Japanese confectionery, "Latte Monaka," from May 1, 2021.

Fukuoka is known as one of Japan's leading coffee towns. Its ever-expanding coffee culture is attracting attention not only from outside the prefecture but also from around the world. We started out with the desire to create a coffee souvenir that can only be found in Fukuoka. Created in collaboration with Kinose, another Fukuoka-based Japanese confectionery shop, Latte Monaka, a new Japanese confectionery made with specialty coffee, will be available for purchase from May 1, 2021.
Concept
This is a new type of Japanese coffee confectionery created to encourage more people to enjoy coffee, as a souvenir from Fukuoka and a cafe latte to eat. It can be enjoyed anytime, anywhere. That's "Latte Monaka."

Taste
The bean paste inside the monaka is divided into two layers, coffee bean paste and milk bean paste, to represent the combination of espresso and milk, a cafe latte. The coffee bean paste is made from 100% specialty coffee. The type of coffee beans and degree of roasting have been repeatedly tested to find the perfect match for the carefully crafted milk bean paste. It has a distinctive aftertaste that only specialty coffee can offer, with a sweetness that fades away.
Also, the two-layered bean paste makes it an enjoyable monaka that tastes different depending on the direction you put it in your mouth. Enjoy the harmony of the cafe latte that blends together in your mouth.

Packaging
Made using paper called "Cafe Latte" which is made from 100% recycled paper, the two-tone colouring evokes coffee and milk, making the packaging visually appealing and perfect as a souvenir.
