On August 7th, Kyoto Hotel Okura will host its 64th Cultural Salon, "Capturing Beauty: Beautifully Reproducing Beautiful Things."
The Kyoto Hotel Okura Cultural Salon, which began in 2010 with the aim of reaffirming Japanese traditions and Kyoto culture and passing them on to future generations, will feature a guest speaker, Osamu Yamamoto, head of the Benrido Collotype Studio, which has been producing catalogs and reproductions of national treasures and other cultural heritage for over 120 years.
Collotype, a printing technique that requires particularly delicate and advanced techniques, is considered the pinnacle of fine art printing. Benrido uses the collotype technique, which has become rare worldwide, to produce numerous reproductions of artworks and letters for art museums and museums both in Japan and abroad.
In addition, the first of three experiential events will feature a postcard printing experience featuring "The Picture Scroll of Choju Jinbutsu." This event allows visitors to print their own image from "The Picture Scroll of Choju Jinbutsu" and gain a hands-on experience of the collotype printing technique.
