Beyond Playing CDs: km5 Expands the Music Experience with the Mp1 Wireless Mixer and Sp1 Speaker

Oct 28, 2026
The devices we use to listen to music have continually reshaped our relationship with sound. From record players to CD players and smartphones, the ways we play music have become increasingly diverse. Yet the simple act of picking up a CD, placing it in a player, and listening to music offers a kind of enjoyment distinct from digital streaming.

Audio brand km5 has unveiled two new products designed to enhance the experience of its Cp1 CD player: the Instant Wireless Mixer Mp1 and the Instant Sound Audio Sp1, a wireless speaker.

Beyond simply playing CDs, the two devices make it possible to mix music and bring sound into different spaces. Together, they offer new ways to engage with music.

Beyond Listening to CDs: Expanding the Experience with Cp1

km5's Cp1 is an audio device designed to bring the physical experience of CDs into contemporary life. At a time when streaming provides instant access to vast music libraries, taking a disc out of its case, placing it in a player, and listening involves more than the act of hearing music alone.

Looking at the album artwork, holding the disc, choosing which album to play next. In an era when music circulates primarily as digital data, these tangible gestures retain an appeal of their own.

The newly announced Mp1 and Sp1 are designed to be enjoyed alongside Cp1.

With a mixer to manipulate sound and a speaker to bring it into the surrounding space, the CD player becomes the starting point for a broader audio setup. Rather than simply adding separate devices, km5 proposes an interconnected collection of products with a shared design language, expanding the possibilities of how and where music can be enjoyed.

Mp1: Bringing Music Mixing into Everyday Life

The Instant Wireless Mixer Mp1 is a compact wireless mixer capable of combining two audio sources.

With two Bluetooth inputs, it can connect wirelessly to music played from Cp1, smartphones, and other compatible devices. The mixed audio can also be transmitted to a Bluetooth speaker, creating a setup that requires no cables between the audio sources, mixer, and speaker.

The device features a three-band EQ for adjusting frequency ranges, a FILTER function for shaping the character of the sound, and a LOOP function for repeating selected sections of a track. LINE inputs and outputs also allow for wired connections.

Its built-in battery provides approximately six hours of continuous operation. Its compact design makes it possible to mix music in a variety of settings, from living rooms to outdoor spaces.

A DJ mixer is a tool for switching between audio sources and blending tracks together. Mp1 brings these functions into a compact, wireless format, making the experience more accessible in everyday settings.

A device designed for listening to CDs now becomes part of a setup that allows users to mix and manipulate sound themselves. Rather than simply receiving sound, Mp1 invites users to take an active role in how they experience it.

Sp1: Bringing Sound into the Space Around Us

The Instant Sound Audio Sp1, meanwhile, is a slim wireless speaker with the same dimensions as Cp1.

It houses two 45 mm full-range drivers, two passive radiators, and a digital power amplifier IC. Despite its slim profile, the speaker is designed to reproduce low frequencies while delivering a spacious sound.

Alongside Bluetooth connectivity, Sp1 supports FM radio and music playback from microSD cards. It can also record radio broadcasts and offers approximately 12 hours of continuous operation on its built-in battery. Two Sp1 units can be paired for stereo playback, while the speaker can also be mounted on a wall.

What makes Sp1 particularly interesting is that its design considers not only how sound is produced, but also how the device occupies a space.

Its slim form allows it to sit on a table or shelf or be mounted on a wall. Paired with Cp1, the CD player and speaker share a consistent scale, creating a visual relationship within the room.

Should an audio device stand out as part of an interior, or blend naturally into its surroundings? Sp1 offers an opportunity to consider the listening environment as part of the design of a space.

Designing Our Relationship with Music

What Mp1 and Sp1 share is an approach that builds on the Cp1 CD player while broadening the ways music can be enjoyed. Mp1 reconsiders how we interact with sound through mixing, while Sp1 explores where and how sound can become part of a space.

The physical gesture of placing a CD into a player and the contemporary technology of connecting and manipulating sound wirelessly might seem to belong to different eras. Through km5's products, however, they become part of a single listening experience.

From devices made simply to play music to objects that encourage us to reconsider our relationship with it, Mp1 and Sp1 suggest new possibilities for audio product design.

km5 will also participate in DESIGNART TOKYO 2026, the tenth edition of the annual design and art festival, through “AUTOBAHN - The Design Store,” a special project within the festival's main venue. Both Mp1 and Sp1 are scheduled to be exhibited, offering visitors an opportunity to see the designs firsthand.
