Neue, a hot spot for sweets lovers, is run by the owner alone and serves desserts and wine. It opened in July this year in Shimokitazawa, a hotbed of gourmet food. Its popularity has skyrocketed, with photos of parfaits uploaded by customers and on its official Instagram account quickly becoming a hot topic! With its stylish desserts, natural wines, and convenient location for enjoying light snacks, it's quickly becoming a new Shimokitazawa attraction.
The menu, handwritten by the owner, is displayed on a mirror inside the cozy shop, which seats around 10. Several wine accompaniments, such as chicken liver pate, are available, and the sweets section next to it features classics like Sugawara Pudding and crème brûlée, as well as two or three seasonal parfaits.

Inside Noie
"After moving to Tokyo from my hometown of Yamagata, I trained at a bistro while eating, researching, and making my favorite sweets," says owner Naoya Sugawara. While he may seem cool at first glance, when I spoke to him while he was preparing the food, he graciously replied, "I've been doing everything by myself, from preparation to serving customers, so it's a bit lonely (laughs). But I like working alone, so I don't plan on increasing the number of staff."
December's "Citrus Parfait" (1,620 yen including tax) will be available. This parfait, made with generous amounts of mandarin oranges, oranges, and kumquats, has a crepe at the bottom filled with white wine and mandarin jelly, the three types of citrus fruits in the center, and a mountain of whipped cream with lemon syrup, topped with bitter orange syrup. The juicy citrus trio and the refreshing whipped cream make it easy to finish the whole thing in no time. This is a dish that will leave you feeling like you've been fully charged with Vitamin C.

December's "Citrus Parfait"
"Our parfaits are quite generous, so some people share one between two people. You can also order a mini-sized one," says Sugawara. Neue, run by a music-loving owner who loves the town of Shimokita, has captured the hearts of sweets and wine lovers, especially women, as a place where you can enjoy desserts to your heart's content. As items may sell out, we recommend coming before 10pm if you're looking for a parfait.
