Patisserie Asako Iwayanagi has no sign. At first glance, its glass-walled exterior resembles a gallery, with the cafe space designed to offer a full view of the kitchen. When it first opened, many customers were curious and decided to stop in, unsure of what kind of shop it was. But the store's design isn't the only innovative element. Each cake displayed in the display case has a dignified presence like a work of art, making customers feel as if they're shopping for jewelry at a luxury boutique.

Patisserie Asako Iwayanagi
In the hands of owner and pastry chef Asako Iwayanagi, even parfaits are anything but ordinary. The "Parfait Bijou Noel" (¥3,240 including tax, includes a drink), a Christmas-only specialty reminiscent of a jewel box filled with rubies and pearls, is so popular that customers come from far and wide just to try it, thanks to the limited number of servings available per day.

The "Parfait Bijou Noel" Jewel Box
This "strawberry-filled" parfait, which is in season right now, is made with fresh strawberries, strawberry jam, champagne jelly, mascarpone cream, and plenty of strawberry gelato. The soft jelly glides smoothly across your tongue, the crunchy texture of the white chocolate-coated puffs, and the sweet and tart flavor of the strawberries all combine to create a surging sensation in your mouth. The luxurious parfait experience is further enhanced by the dessert wine paired by a sommelier. Enjoying the parfait with a slightly sparkling red dessert wine served in a 200-year-old Baccarat glass is not only an overwhelmingly luxurious experience, but also a highly satisfying treat.
Iwayanagi and her husband, an architect, opened their shop in Todoroki last January, determined to keep it running for the rest of their lives. "There's so much we want to do, and we still have a long way to go. We also hold six cake classes per month and events where you can enjoy the pairing of cake and wine," says owner Yadozawa. Patisserie Asako Iwayanagi is the embodiment of Iwayanagi Asako's desire to bake and deliver cakes as close to her customers as possible. With its elaborate and delicious presentation, it will continue to evolve as a place that continues to provide a sweet treat for both the eyes and the palate.
