To celebrate its 10th anniversary on January 21st, the National Art Center, Tokyo will hold a special event called "10th Anniversary Week" from January 20th to 30th.
The creative unit SPREAD was responsible for the commemorative visuals, including posters. Based on the concept of "10 Colors of the Future," the posters feature 10 colors themed around Creativity, Light, Experience, Hope, Enchantment, Love, Flight, Challenge, Mystery, and Humanity. In addition, on January 29th, SPREAD will hold a workshop (free of charge, advance registration required). Based on the theme "10 Years Expressed in Color and Shape," participants will imagine their own future and the society surrounding them, and create a poster representing each year in color and shape.
In conjunction with the 10th Anniversary Week, an exhibition introducing the activities of the National Art Center, Tokyo, titled "NACT Colors - Introducing the Activities of the National Art Center, Tokyo," will be held in Special Exhibition Room 1E, which is usually used to host large-scale art exhibitions. The venue design is by French architect and designer Emmanuel Moureaux. Visitors will be able to experience the activities of the National Art Center, Tokyo alongside a vibrantly colored installation.
In addition, there will be a video installation by Ishida Takashi, a video artist and artist known for his "drawing animation" technique, in which lines are drawn and filmed one frame at a time. Ishida is also known for his large-scale projection mapping, and for this exhibition he plans to project his work onto the walkway from the subway to the museum.
Other events will include a symposium with invited experts and an architectural tour of the building, and special 10th anniversary menus will be served at the four cafes and restaurants within the museum.
