Photographer Kishin Shinoyama's traveling exhibition, "Kishin Shinoyama: The Power of Photography - THE PEOPLE by KISHIN," will run from January 4 to February 28, 2017, at the Yokohama Museum of Art. Since its debut in 2012, "Kishin Shinoyama: The Power of Photography - THE PEOPLE by KISHIN" has toured 25 venues across Japan, captivating over 750,000 visitors. Now, five years after its launch, the Yokohama exhibition will divide the museum into five sections and display approximately 120 large-scale panels of photographs personally selected by Shinoyama from his vast collection spanning over 50 years. The "GOD" section will feature portraits of famous people whose deaths are deeply mourned and whose lives continue to linger in people's hearts. Works by such figures as John Lennon, Yukio Mishima, Shintaro Katsu, Hibari Misora, and Reiko Ohara will be on display. The "STAR" section will feature works featuring celebrities such as Momoe Yamaguchi, Sayuri Yoshinaga, AKB48, Seiko Matsuda, Akira Kobayashi, Saori Minami, Kazuo Funaki, Shigeo Nagasaki, Pink Lady, and Takeshi Kitano. Additionally, "SPECTACLE" will showcase Shinoyama's unique "Sinorama" panoramic photography, which connects multiple photographs horizontally. The lineup will include installations of Tokyo Disneyland, Karuizawa, the setting of Kumiko Goto's fairy tale, kabuki, and Yayoi Kusama. "BODY" will feature nude photographs of 18-year-old Rie Miyazawa, Kanako Higuchi, Ruriko Asaoka, and butoh dancer Vladimir Malakhov. A variety of nude photographs will be on display, including solo and group, male and female, dancer and athlete, studio and indoor, big city and nature. "ACCIDENTS" will also feature portraits of people affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake. These photographs capture the connections between people and places that shook Japanese society. Special selections for the Yokohama exhibition will also include new works by prominent figures with deep ties to Yokohama, such as Yokohama native Mitsuko Kusabue and Yuzu, a band that began with a live performance in Isezakicho, Yokohama. Furthermore, an artist talk featuring Shinoyama himself will be held from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM on January 7, 2017. Curator-led gallery talks will be held from 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM on January 28, February 11, and 25, 2017. A special "Night Art Cruise at the Museum" will be held on February 4, 2017, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, offering exclusive access to the museum after closing time. Furthermore, as a joint project with the "Kishin Shinoyama Photography Exhibition: KISHIN meets ART," which is being held at the Hakone Open-Air Museum until April 5, 2017, there is a service where you can receive a discount on the admission fee for both exhibitions by presenting either ticket.
