The National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto will host the exhibition "Future Beauty: Japanese Fashion: A Continuum of Discontinuity (tentative title)." The exhibition will run from March 21 to May 11 next year.
The exhibition will focus on the creativity of Japanese fashion and the cultural background that lies within it. From pioneers of contemporary fashion such as Issey Miyake, Yohji Yamamoto, and Rei Kawakubo, to designers of the 2000s who aimed to forge new relationships between clothing and people, the uniqueness of Japanese fashion, which is acclaimed worldwide, will be showcased through clothing, photography, video, and more.
Based on the museum's "Future Beauty: 30 Years of Japanese Fashion" exhibition, which has toured London, Munich, Tokyo, Seattle, and other cities since 2010, the exhibition will reexamine the potential of the workshops and techniques that continue to be transmitted from Kyoto.
