Travel back in time to the Meiji era! Valuable archives unraveling the history of Ginza at the Mikimoto flagship store

Oct 30, 2014

The exhibition "From Ginza to the World, From the World to Ginza: Mikimoto Walking with Ginza" will be held at the Mikimoto Hall on the 6th floor of the Mikimoto flagship store in Tokyo's Ginza district from November 21st.

The exhibition explores the path Mikimoto has taken over the 115 years since its opening in 1899 and the role it has played in Ginza. It also showcases the charms of the area, which have shown different faces through the ages, through valuable materials such as photographs and videos from that time. From the Taisho to the early Showa eras, when the term "ginbura" (walking around Ginza) became popular and women known as "modern girls" and "working women" appeared, visitors can get a glimpse of the vibrant atmosphere of Ginza through various materials and products unique to a store that has had a presence in Ginza since that time.
The store, known as the "Pearl-Colored Store," which opened on Ginza Street in 1906, has been recreated, and the interior of the store at the time and the history of jewelry design will be exhibited in a space that makes you feel like you've traveled back in time.
