To celebrate the release of the sequel to Led Zeppelin's latest remastered series, Paul Smith, who has been friends with the band's guitarist Jimmy Page for nearly 50 years, has announced a collaboration item with the band.
The announcement took place at Paul Smith SPACE in Omotesando. Designers Paul Smith and Jimmy Page both came from their home countries to attend the Tokyo launch, ahead of the rest of the world.
The collaboration between the legendary band and the global fashion brand resulted in a large 1.5 x 1.5 meter scarf printed with six different artworks. The six scarves (priced at ¥73,000) feature designs based on the album covers of five albums: "Led Zeppelin," "Led Zeppelin 2," and "Led Zeppelin 3," the first installment of the remaster project launched in June 2014, and "Led Zeppelin 4" and "House of the Holy," due for release on October 29. One additional scarf, designed specifically for this collaboration, is a completely new design. Each scarf is limited to 50 pieces worldwide. Paul commented, "There'll be a lot of competition, because there aren't many of them!" When asked why they decided to limit the number of scarves, he smiled and said, "Because Jimmy is special to me." According to Jimmy, the two first met in 1967. Jimmy was performing in Santa Barbara, USA, when a mutual friend introduced him to Paul, and they immediately hit it off. Paul, who was listening to this conversation nearby, reminisced with nostalgia, saying, "We both shared the common bond of being British and active on the world stage, so we developed a sense of camaraderie." He added, "Back then, all we had was safe clothes, so I even made Jimmy some clothes that would look great on stage! That's why I'm so happy we were able to collaborate this time." When asked by the press, "Back then, we couldn't have imagined we'd be here, talking, talking now!" Paul replied, "We couldn't have imagined it at all." However, nearly 50 years later, they continue to create music and fashion that is loved worldwide, and their continued recognition in the creative world is inevitable. When asked the secret to this, Paul replied, "Passion for your work. It all comes down to it. Making something you truly love." For this collaboration, they poured their extraordinary passion into each and every scarf, meticulously crafting every detail.
Due to their strong commitment, the two were seen working together many times during the press conference, holding the ends of the large scarves together to show the press corps every last detail of the design.
