Guitarist Jimmy Page was born on January 9, 1944, in Middlesex, England.
In 1963, he enrolled at Southern Art College in Surrey, majoring in painting. While still a student, he was active as a session guitarist. In 1966, he joined the rock band The Yardbirds, playing lead guitar alongside Jeff Beck. The band continued as a quartet after Beck's departure, but disbanded in 1968.
He then recruited vocalist Robert Plant, drummer John Bonham, and multi-instrumentalist John Paul Jones to form the band that would become Led Zeppelin. They debuted in October 1968 and released their first album, bearing the same name, in 1969. Their second album, "Led Zeppelin 2," was a huge hit, reaching number one on the charts in both the US and the UK.
After Led Zeppelin disbanded in 1980, he formed several bands. He released his first solo album, "Outrider," in 1988. Since 1990, he has been responsible for remastering Led Zeppelin's entire back catalogue and has produced new products such as the DVD "How The West Was Won" and the 2007 hit album "Mothership." At the closing ceremony of the Beijing Olympics in August 2008, he performed "Whole Lotta Love" with Leona Lewis.
He was chosen as the campaign model for the American fashion brand John Varvatos' 13 Spring/Summer collection. His sophisticated fashion in black-and-white photographs became a hot topic.
