On March 19th, FACTOTUM unveiled its 2013-14 Autumn/Winter collection at Shibuya Hikarie. Designer Koji Udou took inspiration from American author Charles Bukowski's debut novel, "The Post Office." "I was inspired by the author's attitude of continuing to write while working as a postal worker, so I designed it with a postman in mind," Udou said. Since the origins of American postman style lie in the British uniform, the collection proposes a modern layered style based on British work style. Work coats, tailored jackets, and bomber jackets with cowhide boa linings, Melton duffle coats, and Driesler jackets with waterproof zippers are featured, paired with rolled-up corduroy pants and jacquard shorts. The eagle, the symbol of U.S. Mail, is often featured in the patterns, sometimes appearing like camouflage and sometimes depicting the eagle's silhouette with quilted stitching. Postman-esque red and mustard yellow were the key colours.
The background music was 60s British rock, in keeping with the time period set in the novel, which livened up the show. With the 10th anniversary just around the corner, this season's theme was "Do Try". It embodies Udo's message that "There's always been a lot of talk about trying new things, but it's also important to continue doing what you have now."
