Aesop opens its fifth directly managed store in Japan in Shibuya. The store was designed by Torafu Architects.

Aesop's Shibuya store has opened on Meiji Dori. This is their fifth directly operated store in Japan and their first facing a major street.

The store design was handled by Torafu Architects, who also designed Aesop's Shin-Maru Building and Yokohama Bay Quarter stores. The space was formerly a printing factory, and natural light was let in through windows revealed by removing the old walls, reflecting the light with mirrors. The shelves and sink are finished in black, showcasing the natural color of the steel.

Aesop is a skincare, haircare, and body care brand founded in Melbourne, Australia in 1987. While based on plant-derived ingredients, they allow the use of non-plant-based ingredients such as antioxidants whose safety and effectiveness have been established. Due to their use of high-quality ingredients, some items have previously been out of stock in stores. In addition to their product development, they do not use advertising, and are supported by a corporate stance consistent with their brand name, which means "honesty" in Greek. According to the brand's Asia marketing manager, "We currently operate over 60 directly managed stores worldwide, with plans to open stores in Hong Kong, Munich, and New York. Sales are growing in Asia in Japan, South Korea, and Hong Kong. A distinctive feature of our business in Japan is our large male customer base. Globally, 20% of our customers are male, but in Japan, this number is 50%. Many customers choose our products as wedding favors."

In addition to the unisex bottle design, our product lineup, which ranges from pet shampoo to mouthwash and can be used by the whole family, and our unique activities to actively support artists and creators, have made us a popular customer base among architects, designers, and people in the fashion industry.

The brand also sponsored the recent art event "G-Tokyo," screening a video work by Polish-born artist Dominik Lejman at the Ginza store and by Masayuki Kawai, known for his cutting-edge video works, at the Aoyama store.
