MACARONIC presented its 2013-14 Autumn/Winter collection at Rooms Link on March 20th. Designer Takashi Aoki, this was his first runway show in a year.
The theme for this collection was "Numerical Paradox," with numerical motifs scattered throughout. The Rolling Stones logo features an outstretched tongue forming a 3, and Andy Warhol's bananas are parodied by combining them to form 6s and 8s. Large numbers were appliquéd and featured on coats, dresses, shirts, and more.
In addition to being used as motifs, patterns and designs are intertwined, with darts being used for the design. Looking closely at down jackets, numbers are hidden in various places, such as stitched numbers for 7s, collars shaped like 4s, and even sequences of numbers.
"I thought it was interesting how the 10 universally recognized letters, from 0 to 9, could create an infinite sequence. Every item is unique, and we never sell the same fabric or pattern," said designer Aoki.
