On March 19th, ANREALAGE unveiled its 2013-14 Autumn/Winter collection. The designer was Kunihiko Morinaga. The theme was "COLOR." The collection began with monochrome looks, featuring jackets and coats with floral prints and patchwork stripes and checks. Gradually, color was added, such as by changing parts of polka dots, flowers, houndstooth, and camouflage patterns to cyan or yellow, or by dyeing the bottom half of a skirt. Toward the end of the collection, a model appeared wearing a pure white outfit with a flower emblazoned on the chest, symbolizing the three primary colors of light. As the garment was exposed to light on a turntable, it gradually began to change color, transforming into green or purple. This was possible because the dyes and threads contained photochromic compounds, compounds whose molecular structure changes in response to sunlight. Photochromic compounds are used in UV detectors and color-changing sunglasses. When exposed to UV rays outdoors, the garment appears colored, and when exposed to fluorescent light indoors, it returns to white. After the show, Morinaga said, "There are designers who pursue and break shapes, but no one has ever broken color before, so I thought I could express the moment when the 'shock of black' of the 1980s and 'Martin Margiela's white' changed to color. I kept the shapes and materials of the clothes simple, and tried something new with just color."
