[2013-2014 AW Tokyo Collection] "Jenny Fax" Hope in despair. But I still want to believe

Mar 22, 2013

On March 20th, JennyFax unveiled its 2013-14 Autumn/Winter collection in the form of an installation at Bellesalle Shibuya Garden. Designer Xue Zhenfan.

The theme was "I want to believe." The shutter rose to reveal a bathtub. The show began with a model silently eating pasta in the tub.

The show was inspired by the 1997 American film "Gummo." The film is set in a run-down rural town in Ohio, USA. It depicts teenagers struggling with mental illness in an economically struggling town, but adapting to everyday life.

The collection continued with mixed outfits that expressed the precariousness of teenagers: diner uniforms with blanket coats, vintage-style T-shirts and shorts with oversized coats, and boa jackets worn over boa dresses.

"It's a village without hope. But even without hope, we continue to live there. If we have no hope, there is no despair," said Xue Zhenfan, and the show depicted the everyday lives of teenagers living their lives without any fuss.

The show ended with an alien smoking a cigarette and a UFO appearing, and the models all gazing at the light of the UFO.
"For the aliens, it's just a way to kill time, but for the people living in this devastated town, it's the last ray of hope," said Xue.
