CHANEL is launching an advertising campaign for its signature fragrance, CHANEL No. 5, based on the legend of Marilyn Monroe. Monroe's quote, "I sleep with a few drops of CHANEL No. 5," was originally published in a black-and-white article in the August 7, 1952, issue of LIFE magazine, the same issue she appeared on. While researching her archives, CHANEL discovered a previously unreleased recording of a 1960 interview with Marie Claire editor-in-chief Georges Belmont, in which Monroe starred in the film Let's Make Love. Monroe admitted that Chanel No. 5 is her absolute favorite scent, confessing, "Well, reporters asked me all sorts of questions, like, 'What do you wear to bed? Pajamas? Nightgown?' And I answered Chanel No. 5. Because it's true... And I didn't want to say 'nude,' but it's true!"
A new advertising campaign based on Monroe's statement will run on television in the Kanto and Kansai regions from November 29th to December 15th, and in newspapers in early December.
