Turning, carving, coloring. In the hands of French artist Jean-Simon Roch, wood takes on an expression that feels almost alive, distinct from the stillness of conventional sculpture.

For the 2026 holiday season, Parisian maison Diptyque presents a collection created in collaboration with Roch. Wood is the defining material. From scented candles and eaux de parfum to decorative objects, its warmth and movement shape an “enchanted forest” inhabited by creatures inspired by the animal and plant worlds. The collection will be released in stages beginning October 15.

Jean-Simon Roch’s Savoir-Faire Brings Wood to Life

Jean-Simon Roch’s approach to making provides the starting point for the collection. Moving between design, sculptural art, and craftsmanship, Roch celebrates wood as both a material and a vehicle for artisanal savoir-faire. In his studio, pieces of wood are turned, carved, and colored as they gradually take shape.

For Diptyque, he has designed a cast of characters that includes an acorn-shaped spinning top, a whimsical owl, and stylized fir trees. Retaining the natural texture of wood, these animal and botanical forms appear poised to spring into motion. The same world extends to the Advent calendar that opens the collection.

Inspired by a woodturner’s toolbox, the illustrated box contains 25 Diptyque creations, including scented candles, discovery-size eaux de parfum, fragrance gestures, body care, and home care products.

Like opening a craftsperson’s toolbox, each compartment reveals something new as the days count down to Christmas. Roch’s creative process is transformed into the ritual of waiting for the holidays.

Sapin Fills Diptyque’s Enchanted Forest With Scent

Wood is more than a sculptural material here. Throughout the 2026 holiday collection, the visual language of wood converges with the medium Diptyque knows best: fragrance.

At the center is “Sapin,” a scent that returns exclusively for the holiday season.

Essences of Siberian pine and balsam fir are combined with cedarwood and moss in a woody composition recalling a freshly cut fir tree. For 2026, deep green lacquered glass scattered with golden stars is accented for the first time with a wooden oval label, designed to harmonize with the classic candle’s wooden lid.

Alongside small, classic, and extra-large candles, Sapin appears in a fir tree-shaped Advent taper candle designed to mark the 25 days leading up to Christmas, as well as a scented oval and room spray.

The imagery of a forest and a fragrance that recalls one come together, expanding Diptyque’s enchanted forest beyond the visual into a multisensory experience.

When Wood Itself Carries the Fragrance

One object in particular captures the idea behind the collaboration between Jean-Simon Roch and Diptyque: the “Fragrance Spin Object Wood.”

Made from turned wood, the small acorn-shaped object spins like a top, diffusing the scent of Sapin as it turns.

Here, wood is no longer simply decoration used to evoke a forest. The material at the heart of Roch’s practice becomes a medium for carrying Diptyque’s fragrance. Woodcraft and perfumery meet not only in form, but in function.

That idea extends across the collection. Wooden candle lids, ornaments for the Christmas tree, and a wooden match holder handcrafted by artisans in France’s Jura region bring woodcraft into objects of different scales and uses. Savoir-faire passed down through generations is recast in contemporary objects for the holiday season.

Diptyque’s Signature Fragrances Are Dressed in Wood

The world of wood also extends to some of Diptyque’s best-known fragrances.

“Orphéon,” “Do Son,” and “Eau Rose” eaux de parfum arrive in limited-edition designs for Holiday 2026. Each 75 mL bottle is finished with a black wooden oval label illuminated by gold lettering.

Other materials and forms of craftsmanship join the collection as well: carousels that rotate with the heat of a candle flame, a fir tree-shaped lantern, and a candle holder combining flame-worked glass with enameled porcelain. 

A story that begins with wood expands into fragrance, flame, glass, and light, composing Diptyque’s vision of the holiday season.

From the Artist’s Work to Diptyque’s Creations

At the far end of the collection are five artworks designed and created by Jean-Simon Roch himself.

Handcrafted individually in his Paris studio, the pieces change expression when set in motion by their owners. The characters inhabiting this enchanted forest appear here in forms including a wooden candle, an owl dressed in colorful fabric fringe, an elf, a wolf, and a fox. Produced in extremely limited quantities and individually numbered, the works will be available exclusively at Maison Diptyque in Paris and London.

Forms first created from wood in the artist’s studio move into Diptyque’s candles, fragrances, and decorative objects, before returning once again to art pieces. For Holiday 2026, Diptyque treats wood as more than a visual motif, bringing together the material itself, woodcraft, movement, and scent within a single world.
