Alexander McQueen has released a limited-edition scarf collection in collaboration with renowned British contemporary artist Damien Hirst. The collection commemorates the 10th anniversary of the skull scarf, which has become a signature item for the brand since its debut in Spring/Summer 2003. It marks McQueen's first collaboration with another artist. Based in London, Hirst and McQueen share many aesthetic similarities, both of whom have been heavily influenced by skulls and the natural world. The scarves feature realistic, geometrically arranged kaleidoscopic depictions of various insects from Hirst's signature "Entomology" series, including butterflies, spiders, cicadas, cicada larvae, jewel beetles, and stag beetles. McQueen's skull motif is always incorporated somewhere in the butterfly's body or wing patterns. Each design has been given a name with a strong message, such as "Perfect Moment Skull." There are 30 designs, each in one color.
They come in four materials: chiffon, pongee, twill, and wool, and three sizes: 90cm x 90cm, 133cm x 133cm, and 140cm x 140cm. Prices range from 59,850 yen to 137,550 yen.
They are available at Alexander McQueen worldwide stores and online scarf boutiques, and in Japan they are only available at McQueen's world's first accessories store, the Roppongi Hills store, which opened this spring, and online.
Campaign images and a short film created by photographer Solve Sundsbo have also been released.
