Levi's will hold the "THE 140 YEARS OF LEVI'S" exhibition to commemorate the 140th anniversary of the birth of blue jeans. The exhibition will take place at the Daikanyama T-Site Garden Gallery (16-15 Sarugaku-cho, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo) for four days from September 13th to 16th. Six treasured archive pieces from Levi's' San Francisco headquarters will be brought to Japan for the first time for this exhibition. The exhibit will include an Yves Saint Laurent trucker jacket adorned with Swarovski crystals, made for the 1896 "Decorated Denim" auction held for an AIDS charity; a denim tuxedo jacket worn by Bing Crosby; and denim apparel by contemporary artist Damien Hirst. The exhibition will also feature reproductions of the 501, a classic pair of jeans from the 1890s to 2013.
During the exhibition, a hardcover photo book, "THE 501® BOOK" (8,400 yen), will also be on sale. It contains 501 portraits of people wearing the 501, collected through Levi's digital project, "Global Gallery WHAT'S YOUR INTERPRETATION?" Only 501 copies will be published worldwide, with only 50 copies available in Japan. The book will be sold exclusively at the venue during the exhibition, and will also be available at Levi's Shinjuku and Shibuya stores from September 20th.
All proceeds from the book will be donated to the California College of Art, San Francisco.
