Nov 28, 2013

The exhibition "Cartier. Le style et l'histoire," organized by the Grand Palais National Museum Association, will open on December 4th and is the first exhibition at the Salon d'Honneur in the Grand Palais in Paris since its renovation.

In addition to works from the "Cartier Collection," the exhibition will feature 50 pieces on loan from public institutions and private collections, including the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, the Musée Galliera, the National Library and Museum of France, and the Library of Decorative Arts. The exhibition showcases approximately 600 pieces, including jewelry, objets d'art, watches, and clocks, as well as dresses, coats, accessories, furniture, paintings, advertising photographs, prints, and fashion magazines, showcasing the brand's history and social role. The exhibition will include items related to world celebrities such as the Maharaja, Marlene Dietrich, Elizabeth Taylor, and the Duchess of Windsor, as well as 20 pieces from the Monaco Royal Family's collection, including a selection by Princess Grace, the collection of Marjorie Merriweather Post, a major customer of the New York store, and 16 rare mystery clocks. Nearly 200 sketches, inventory ledgers from the archives, idea notebooks, drawings and plaster casts related to the store on Rue de La Paix, will also be on display, providing a glimpse behind the scenes at Cartier.
