Mikimoto will be exhibiting at the "Pearls" exhibition at London's Victoria and Albert Museum, running from September 21 to January 19 next year. The exhibition will highlight Mikimoto founder Kokichi Mikimoto's lifelong dedication to cultured pearls as a major turning point in the pearl industry, and will showcase pearl jewelry from the Mikimoto Pearl Museum's collection. On display will be the multifunctional "Yaguruma" obidome (sash clasp) exhibited at the 1937 Paris World's Fair; the intricate "Hanaguruma" obidome (sash clasp) inspired by oxcarts from the Heian period; an Akoya pearl necklace given to Marilyn Monroe by her second husband, Joe DiMaggio, on their honeymoon in Japan; and the "Journey of 5000 Pearls" scarf, featuring Akoya pearls. The Pearl Exhibition, co-hosted by the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Qatar Museums Authority, will unravel the history of pearls from ancient Rome to the present day. In addition to Mikimoto, jewelry from brands such as Bvlgari, Cartier, Chaumet, Rene Lalique, and Tiffany will also be on display. Pearl jewelry owned by European royalty and aristocrats, including Mary Queen of Scots, and actress Elizabeth Taylor will also be on display.
