Our third recommendation is "Kyoto Tsukemono Nishiri," newly opened on the first floor of COREDO Muromachi.
This long-established Kyoto pickle shop has received acclaim for a variety of products, including the Prime Minister's Award-winning "Nishiri's Senmaizuke," the Kyoto Governor's Award-winning "suguki," and the flavorful "shibazuke." There are 15 seats available for dining in, allowing you to savor their signature pickled dishes on the spot.
Among the menu items available in the shop, we particularly recommend the "Kyoto Tsukemono Sushi Dim Sum" (1,300 yen). The seven types of seasonal Kyoto Tsukemono Sushi (yamaimo yam, shibazuke, rape blossoms, senmaizuke rolls, eggplant, Chinese cabbage, and red turnip) are prepared with a subdued rice acidity to bring out the flavor of the pickles. The accompaniments, such as the luxuriously simmered daikon radish and lightly pickled daikon radish and salmon, change with the seasons, so it's a place you'll want to return to again and again.
The editorial team also took notice of the apples in "Healthy Pickles Labre." This is an original Nishiri product, made by fermenting and aging the ingredients using the currently popular "Labre lactic acid bacteria." The texture is similar to a baked apple, and it pairs perfectly with the ice cream in the eat-in dessert, "Healthy Pickles Labre Apple Fritter with Ice Cream" (400 yen).
And that concludes our introduction of the editorial team's three top picks from "COREDO Muromachi," which has been renovated into "COREDO Muromachi 2 & 3."
