The ISSEY MIYAKE 2014-15 Autumn/Winter collection, marking the sixth season since Yoshiyuki Miyamae took over as designer, appears to have broken new ground. The theme was "Rhythmatic Forest—The Heartbeat of the Forest." Forest-inspired motifs were incorporated into the clothing. The show began with an exciting performance. Models appeared carrying semicircular cases, stopping at various points to open them. Inside was a pleated, disk-shaped piece of fabric. When a model picked up a section of the fabric, the disk stretched, transforming into a three-dimensional, three-dimensional dress or top. When the models put them on, thunderous applause erupted. This was a new item called "ring pleats." The curved pleats, folded multiple times in a concentric pattern, resemble tree rings.
The next scene features clothing with a variety of layered prints of striped patterns. The layering creates a textured surface on the fabric, adding expression to movement. The collection includes pants, dresses, jackets, and coats, all with a slightly ethnic feel. The leather bag she carries is from "Gaston," which echoes these details. It is reversible, with a grain leather front and a layered print on the back, and the textured surface allows it to change shape three-dimensionally to fit the contents inside. The brand aims to make it an iconic bag.
The final scene showcases the "3D Steam Stretch" series, which adds 360° of stretch to the Steam Stretch series released in 2012-2013 AW by using stretch yarn in the warp as well. A single piece of textile is steamed, causing it to shrink three-dimensionally and form tops, skirts, dresses and more. What's striking is that even the three-fold hem is woven in. Not only design but also productivity has been taken into consideration.
The colors include blue, green, red, orange and brown, reminiscent of the four seasons of the forest. This collection is a brilliant development of the brand's roots as "a single piece of cloth."
