The ISSEY MIYAKE MEN 2014 Spring/Summer collection was unveiled in Paris. The designer, Yusuke Takahashi, made waves when he was promoted to the brand at just 27 years old.
He combined the spirit of exploration in materials inherited from Issey Miyake with inspiration from his global travels, expressing his designs that focused on form, color, and body movement. The theme was "Open the window and see the world."
The colorful checkered fabric featured in the first look was created using the board-jime technique to create a black grid pattern, which was then printed with blue and red using a textile print. A black grid pattern was also applied to the gray suit fabric.
The blue and red fabrics, which appear to be unevenly dyed in white, were randomly bleached using the tornado-shibori technique. The cracked pattern was created using batik (wax-resist dyeing), where the fabric was sewn with a special dye-resistant paste, dried, and then kneaded and split by hand, allowing dye to fill in the cracks. The beige and blue gradation fabric has been dyed over time in layers to recreate the colors of the desert sand and sky.
In addition to jackets and pants, the collection also features oversized shirts and stand-collar tunic shirts, which Takahashi likes to wear. Sporty items such as shorts and large backpacks have also been added.
