Yasuhiro Mihara returns to Tokyo and shows off Jakuchu's mods [2014-2015 AW Tokyo]

Mar 21, 2014

On March 21st, MIHARA YASUHIRO held a show for its men's and women's 2014-15 Autumn/Winter collections at its flagship store in Omotesando, Tokyo. This was the first time the brand has held a show in Japan in eight years for the men's collection and three for the women's. The theme of the women's collection, which was unveiled for the first time, was "BOTAN." The delicate image of the peony depicted in the work of Ito Jakuchu was combined with men's styles, including mod and street styles. The look combined tailored and street styles, masculine and feminine, with Chesterfield coats, rider jackets, wide-leg pants, and loose-gauge knitwear paired with shirts and miniskirts featuring bustle-like flares at the back. Many outerwear pieces featured tailored jackets with denim jacket lapels attached for a layered look. A sweatshirt top featuring flared Nishijin fabric is a symbolic item of this season. The pattern is inspired by a painting by Jakuchu. The tops have voluminous sleeves and a tight-fitting bodice, emphasizing the contrast of the silhouette and setting them apart from street style. Mink fur is used as an accent throughout, adding a feminine and luxurious feel to the clothing and shoes.

The herringbone fabric is from Harris Tweed. At first glance, classic coats and suits are given a fresh look by switching between different patterned fabrics on the front and back.

The men's collection was unveiled in January as an installation in Paris. Based on the theme of "May Day," the collection is based on the mod style beloved by young people in Japan in the 1950s and 1960s, and incorporates Jakuchu's works and Nishijin textiles to pursue a unique style.
