FACTOTUM, which has been presenting travel-themed collections, took inspiration from Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale "The Book Without Pictures." The brand's AW14-15 collection, unveiled on March 18, takes its inspiration from the story of a boy who, on a lonely night, comforts the moon by telling him about his travels around the world. The collection proposes a "comfort modern" style themed around the world of night. Designer Koji Udo, who visited Hans Christian Andersen's hometown of Odense, Denmark, in preparation for the collection, said, "I wanted to express Andersen's life, who said, 'Travel is my life, and travel is the best school,' and his style, which is filled with love." The show was divided into two parts. The first half was inspired by loungewear, featuring pajama-style printed shirts coordinated with sweatpants, vests, and gown-style coats. Oriental paisley and heart patterns, representing love, were used for the prints, while the image of the protagonist, a poor boy, was expressed through patchwork. Dark colors, such as gray and navy, were predominant, inspired by the Scandinavian nightlife. In the second half, heavier outerwear such as short pea coats, military-style coats, and chester coats were added, suggesting a travel style. Underneath the outerwear, relaxed items such as off-white high-neck knitwear and sweatshirts were paired. Looks with gentle nuances such as beige, light gray, and pale yellow continued. For the finale, all the models appeared in denim pajama-style sets. Soft fabrics such as rayon, polyester, modal, washed wool, and jersey were used throughout, and the natural drape created a relaxed feel. "At a time when Europe was shrouded in uncertainty, I think Andersen wanted to convey love and dreams. This resonated with my own desire to 'express myself through fashion and make people happy and joyful,'" said Arimoto.
