MIHARA YASUHIRO presented its 2014-15 Autumn/Winter men's collection in a presentation format at the Joyce Gallery in the Palais Royal. Based on the theme of "May Day," the collection evokes the era when the mod movement, which originated in the UK in the 1950s and 1960s, spread to Japan and influenced fashion, music, and lifestyle as Tokyo Mods. The collection incorporates both classic and street styles, such as pairing a three-button jacket—a quintessential mod style—with vintage-washed denim pants. Unique designs, such as a Chesterfield coat layered with a parka, wool pants combined with jeans, and sneakers that combine half of both designs, express a new mod vibe. The trendy herringbone pattern is the result of a collaboration with Harris Tweed. The collection includes a variety of pieces, including blousons and coats crafted with photojacquard.
Also available are monochrome jacquard sweatshirts inspired by the works of Ito Jakuchu, an artist active in the mid-Edo period. With the cooperation of artist Udaka Kentaro, who has studied Jakuchu, the colors of Jakuchu's time have been pursued, and even the shading and bleeding have been reproduced in the prints.
